Sheridan Smith on stage: from Hedda Gabler to Elle Woods – in pictures

  • In 1998 a 17-year-old Sheridan Smith starred in Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods at the Donmar Warehouse in London. In a Guardian interview she recalled greeting the revered composer with a cheery ‘Hiya, Steve!’ (His reply: ‘I take it you’re playing Little Red Riding Hood?’)

  • Smith was a member of National Youth Music Theatre from 1996 to 1999. In her last year she played Dorothy Hardcastle in The Kissing Dance, staged by the company at the Linbury studio in London.
